Knocking Around

Roger Catlin

Maternity leave kept her from duties at the NBC press tour, but "Law& Order: Special Victims Unit" star Mariska Hargitay couldn't stay away from helping talk up an impending "America Rebuilds, Part II: Return to Ground Zero" that she narrated.

"It's a very powerful documentary about healing," Hardigay said. "We're talking about rebuilding and the feeling that most Americans were left with was the lack of ability to respond. And I think that as Americans we're all rebuilding.

"Being part of this project," she says, "I can say selfishly is helping me with my process. We're all in process with 9/11."

There was a rare laugh in the session when she talked about people getting up after they were knocked up - or rather, knocked down.

"Listen to me, who just had a baby," Hardigay said with a laugh, explaining the gaffe. "I got knocked up."

"Anyway," she sought to fix things, Chumbawamba style, saying "when you get knocked down, you get back up."

"America Rebuilds, Part II: Return to Ground Zero," a sequel of sorts of the first "America Rebuilds," documentary in 2002, airs Sept. 11 at 9 p.m. on PBS.
